Glimpse of Pink & Navy.

[Vintage skirt//American Apparel T//Togo shoes (from The Bay and very old)//Roots Kensington Norway bag//Harriet Grey necklace//Free People sunnies]

Even though I loved wearing this outfit, I don't have many good photos of it, unfortunately. Time escaped us right then and my camera, let's be honest, is not the best. It's so frustrating working with a non-SLR camera !! I really hope to take my photos to that next level soon (Christmas, maybe?), especially in order to meet my own expectations/perfectionism! xo Caroline

Summer Essentials: Part I

Summer Essentials: Part I

1. A basic white T, such as this Uniqlo one.
2. A crop top, like this Topshop one.
3. A coloured mid-length skirt, I love this coral one.
4. Anything stripes. This J. Crew pencil skirt is lovely.
5. Jean shorts. And anything bleached or tie-died. These shorts are edgy and funky.
6. A floral-printed dress (or skirt, or shorts). This one looks comfy, and can be dressed up or down.
7. A jean jacket. Great for cooler summer nights. This Rag & Bone one looks perfect (but pricey).
8. A fun coloured blazer. I'm really into royal blue but this beautiful one is unaffordable.
9. Sleeveless button-ups. And denim. Both appear in this one, for example.
10. Navy and drawstring shorts. Love these Mango ones.

All of these items are what I am or hope to be channelling this summer. Simple, casual, and comfy. Stay tuned for Part II of my summer essentials later in the week! xo Caroline

Quick Tips: De-stressing

I don't know about you, but I'm always stressed. Maybe it's because I'm still a student and thus my work is with me wherever I go. Or, maybe I'm just worrier and, okay, I'll admit it, a bit of a control freak. Needless to say, I'm usually desperate for some stress-free time. But, for some reason, it rarely happens.

Well, here's why I bring this up: I recently came across an article in the June 2012 issue of Canadian Living magazine.  In it were different ways to de-stress, but one tip in particular stood out. And boy, it works! If you're like me and struggle to relax and really unwind, listen up. Instead of waiting for the right or perfect time to relax and de-stress (trust me, it will never come!), take short breaks throughout your day. These breaks can be used up with even just breathing or journalling, whatever your preference might be and whatever works for you in your life. Both of those work for me. Also, try scheduling breaks during transition periods of your day--whether you work from home (as I do), in an office, a restaurant, a retail store, outdoors, in space, and... you get the picture.

Well, I'm off to make a cup of tea and take a few deep breaths. I deserve a bit of time without stress, and you do too! xo Caroline

Black & White.

Random lady running? Sure, why not.
[American Apparel T//Gap shorts//Geox flats//Mantles hat (from The Bay)//Zara tote//Michael Kors sunnies//My grandmother's necklace]

This is what I wore last weekend when my mom and I headed over to Westport. It was a lovely day. I'm not sure why, but I love all-white outfits (okay, black and white ones). Usually I'm a read-between-the-lines-everything-is-grey-and-complicated kinda gal but on this day I wanted to keep it simple. In fact, I prefer all my outfits to be simple. I mean, what else in life is? xo Caroline

Recently.

Pretty scenery at the Public Gardens in Halifax. Oh, how I miss you!
More of that.
Anddd a little more.
More scenery of the beautiful Atlantic and my cozy feet.
Gelato on the board walk one windy evening.
New jacket, DIY bracelet, and retro swimsuit. (Been looking for one for ages!)
Falafel wraps!!
A lovely Moroccan feast and evening out.
The park nearby my old apartment. Sigh.
New (ish) Roots purse and DIY rope necklaces.
Tulips & a cappuccino. Need I say more?
Our drive home. Two days packed tightly in the car. But such pretty skies!
A cocktail outside.
More flowers by the window. This time, lilacs.
Me n' Marilyn. No biggie.
I love my baby!!! I also love my feet? No, I wouldn't say that.

Hope you enjoyed this little mix up! I keep wanting to experiment with new ways I can display my Instagram photos. I see so many ideas around the web. I hope you like this one!

It's Friday, what are your plans for the weekend? I worked 'till 9pm last night and I have to admit I am very proud of myself. Now to start the day... ugh. Otherwise, Jimmy and I are spending the day tomorrow with my aunt and her family at their cottage. I'm excited! And tonight we're having dinner with an old friend. xo Caroline

Around Town.

Jacob blazer//DIY shirt//Thrifted Gap jeans//Aldo sandals (last year)//Free People sunnies//Jenni Jewel necklace//computer bag from Chapter's

Jimmy and I spent the day downtown on Friday working at our computers in various spots (he currently works from home as well). It was a nice day. Cold in the morning, boiling hot in the afternoon. I finished the day off with drinks and dinner with my good friend Chantal. How was your weekend? xo Caroline

New In: Tie-die DIY & Sunnies.

I bleached an old black Smart Set shirt last week, following this Honestly...WTF DIY tutorial. It gave it a new and fun look! I also ordered these baby blue sunnies from Free People and really love 'em. They're oversized and sixties-style and funky. Stay tuned tomorrow because I'm going to post how I paired the two together on Friday! xo Caroline

P.S. Also please note that I'm very much in love with my dog and you may be seeing lots of photos of him in the next few months. Background or not. :)

Music Mondays: Lykke Li

All of a sudden I'm obsessed with Swedish bands and musicians. Remember this one? Even though Lykke Li's latest CD, Wounded Rhymes, came out over a year ago, I've been listening to it non-stop this past week. It's been great thesis music. (Although right now I'm obviously not working on my thesis...) And she is just so cool. She literally embodies everything I love about music. When she's singing, she becomes the music. It's her rhythms, her lyrics, her voice. All of this comes together in her movements, her performance. She's incredible to watch (see some of my favourite music videos by her below) and listen to. Her ability to physically embody music is contagious, outrageous!! Anyway, what are your thoughts? Have you heard of Lykke Li and do you like her?

I hope you are all enjoying the long weekend, if you have one! Today my mom and I are off to a little town called Westport, exciting! xo Caroline

Cheers, Halifax.

A couple of days before Jimmy and I left Halifax we walked to a local brewery to try some samples of their beer. (I can't believe it took us so long to do this--2 years, to be precise!) The beer at Garrison Brewery is excellent! Although I'm not really a beer drinker, I really loved their Raspberry Wheat one. It's light and refreshing and surprisingly delicious. It was a really nice way to wrap up our time in Halifax--with a drink, of course, at a proud-to-be-local business.

Anyway, sorry for the lack of posts this week. Although I'm settling in nicely, I've all of a sudden become really busy! I just need to get into a photo-taking/blogging routine here. Stay tuned! xo Caroline
